What does it do?
We use ours to make hardcover book cases, although it can be used to make ring binders, game boards and the like.
Why did you choose this particular casemaker?
Its ergonomic design, very short makeready times and suitability for short-run work made it the perfect fit for TJ International.
Did you look at any other similar machines?
Yes, we considered several other machines, but decided that this best suited our needs.
Why did you make the purchase?
The BDM Compact 45 replaced a previous model that we’d had for several years and were beginning to think might need replacing. Once we saw the Compact 45, our decision was made in an instant.
What features do you particularly like?
The high product and build quality, as well as its operator friendliness and compact footprint.
Is there anything that you dislike?
Not yet. In fact, I think the operators are in love with it.
Is there anything you wish it had that it doesn’t?
I can’t think of anything, at the moment. It’s doing everything that we wanted it to.
How fast is it?
It can set up in under 10 minutes and runs at 45 cycles a minute – much faster than our old machine.
How reliable is it?
So far so good – touch wood.
What’s the quality like?
Fantastic.
How easy is it to use?
For a skilled operator, it is very easy to pick up. Our operators haven’t had any problems.
How much time or money has it saved?
Time is money, and as we’re saving a significant amount of time, we’re also saving money.
Has it won you any new work?
It is difficult to say at this stage, but it will certainly help us to continue to produce a really top quality book.
Were there any difficulties experienced during the installation or after?
There were inevitably one or two minor logistical glitches surrounding the delivery. However, the installation process went like a dream.
What about the pre- and after-sale service?
Muller Martini’s pre-sale service helped to clinch the deal and so we were delighted with that. It’s too early to say about the after-sale service, but we are sure that our expectations will be met.
Who do you think the machine is right for?
Us.
Would you buy another?
We already have – this is our second.
