What does it do?
It specialises in feeding, inserting and sealing mail at extremely high speeds. It encloses letters, leaflets or flyers into mailing envelopes that are then ready for dispatch.
Why did you choose this particular machine?
For its versatility and speed. It provides us with the ability to insert numerous amounts of different-sized leaflets without the speed being compromised.
Did you look at any other similar machines?
We did have a little shop around, as this was the first stage of our 2007 plant investment strategy. We looked at the Kalmer C4 Giant, Bell & Howell C5 Mailcrafter and PFE Maximailer, to name but a few.
Why did you make the purchase?
One of the main reasons for our spending spree was to boost our capacity and provide an even quicker turnaround for our UK clients. It will also allow us to move into new sectors and continue our growth as a mailing house.
What features do you particularly like?
It would have to be the six inserting stations, as each station can accommodate a range of sizes from DL to A4.
Is there anything you dislike?
Not at all.
Is there anything you wish it had that it doesn’t?
I have thought about adding a stream feeder to one of the inserting stations, as it would allow more space for thicker booklets.
How fast is it?
Extremely fast. It is capable of producing 8,000 items per hour.
How reliable is it?
It is very reliable, safe and consistent. The machine is fitted with a double item misfeed detector, which puts a stop to any delays.
What’s the quality like?
Excellent.
How easy is it to use?
It is rather simple to use, which is good in a busy mailing house. Setting up jobs takes no more than 30 minutes.
How much time or money has it saved?
So far, it has saved just over 500 man-hours since December. This is a massive saving for us, and for our clients.
Were there any difficulties experienced during the installation or after?
No – apart from getting it off the lorry! Only joking, it was very straightforward to install and set.
What about the pre- and after-sale service?
It’s been excellent. We have one-to-one assistance via Mailing Technology, as well as an in-house support centre
in Romford.
Under what circumstances would you buy another?
As soon as this one can’t cope with the workload we put through it – so hopefully soon. n
