The two new UV large-format printers have a 25% larger bed size than the previous versions, at 2.5x2m.
Both devices are modular. The Oryx 2 is the entry-level option with a print speed of 65sqm/hour, while the Impala 2 is upgradeable with additional printheads and can print at up to 180sqm/hour.
Both are on show at SwissQprint’s 143sqm stand in hall 6 at Fespa, which takes place from 18-22 May in Cologne.
The firm said it was taking orders for the two new printers immediately.
Steve Pridham, sales manager at UK distributor Spandex, said the Oryx 2 started at £135,000 and the Impala 2 at £149,000.
“We’ve got two going into the field already,” he said.
Options include roll-to-roll and board handling as well as additional colours.
The new devices use Konica Minolta 1024 printheads for enhanced productivity. The Impala 2 can be fitted with the KM 1024i heads as an option.
Sister product, the larger-format Nyala 2, was launched at Fespa Digital last year. All the second-generation printers offer tandem printing where media is loaded from either side of the table for non-stop production.
SwissQprint is also showing Droptix at Fespa, this is the new name for the 3D Moiré product that was also launched last year.
Droptix allows users to produce lenticular effects using varnish instead of expensive lensed substrates.
“It has been optimised and improved, so it is much easier for the user to generate the pattern needed to generate the effect. That’s the big improvement,” explained SwissQprint marketing services specialist Petra Fetting.
Spandex will install an Impala 2 at its Bristol facility later this month.
