Launched on 11 January, the 610x458mm flatbed press is capable of printing on objects up to 204mm high or cylindrical objects up to 121mm in diameter with the optional rotary axis add-on.
Operating at 2.07sqm/hr in standard mode, the MO-240 can produce gloss or matt finishes and textures, including 3D embossed effects, with Roland’s EUV5 inks.
The ink set, which includes orange, red, white and gloss alongside CMYK, has a gamut around 20% wider than CMYK and is suitable for printing on plastic, paper, leather, wood, and, with primer, glass and metal.
Tony Miller, president of Roland’s global sales and marketing division, said: “Our VersaObject series has been meeting the needs for small lot, high-mix production in manufacturing and services with its high definition and beautiful printing.
“In recent years, new services such as customisation and personalisation have been attracting attention in various fields based on the diversifying and individualised consumer needs, and the MO-240 with its advanced productivity will bring a high level of competitiveness to customers in these businesses.”
The MO-240 has already found a UK sale, through Roland dealer PrintMax, with Maidstone’s Aford Awards placing an order the day of release.
Rob Ferguson, the firm’s sales and production director, said: “We’ve got a great relationship with PrintMax, so when they got in touch to tell us about the new release of the MO we knew we could trust the advice, and technology on offer.
“We use Roland UV technology already, and are looking forward to levelling up with this new addition to our print room.”
Michael Bolton, PrintMax managing director, told Printweek that the market had been keenly awaiting the MO’s release since the phase-out of Roland’s previous LEF range.
He said: “The MO offers the same ease of use, consistency, and reliability that Roland is renowned for, but thanks to a whole host of technological advancements can provide users with higher cost-efficiency, accelerated production speeds, and even more diversity in output.
“At PrintMax, we're pleased to have been able to achieve the first UK sale, which is sure to be followed by many more if the initial interest is anything to go by.”
Roland also launched its PrintAutoMate workflow software on 11 January. The cloud-based software is designed to streamline workflows for printers dealing with a wide range of media, products, and data.
The software converts printing data into pre-registered fixture layout data, assigns print jobs to operators, and connects to Roland’s VersaWorks 6 RIP software. The software is available now to users of the manufacturer’s premium subscription plan to Roland DG Connect in an initial 90-day trial.
