Priced around £60,000, depending on configuration, the RDC has been introduced to Morgana’s portfolio to replace the Nagel DFC system the supplier had previously sold in the same market position.
Unveiled initially at the supplier’s Taking Print Further event in March, it was officially launched to market on 22 August as a complement to the Valiani range of flatbed cutting tables it currently sells.
“We already have very strong demand for this in markets such as Italy and France, and we anticipate success in the UK too,” said vice-president for offline business Ray Hillhouse.
“As of right now, we already sell a range of flatbed cutting tables and many of the customers who bought those may want something with a bit more productivity for certain jobs – this is the machine to fulfil that demand.
“It has impressed us so far with its deep pile feeder and waste management system. As more people in the UK are manufacturing dies, their price will come down, which has long been an obstacle for companies to enter this sector and I think we will see a rise as a result.”
Morgana’s RDC is able to die-cut, kiss-cut, score and perforate – in one pass if necessary – at speeds up to 4,500sph. It takes a maximum sheet size of 368x508mm with a die-cutting area of 361x472mm and a thickness capacity up to 400gsm.
It runs a cutting system comprising an upper magnetic cylinder to hold the cutting matrix and a lower counter cylinder. An enhanced waste management system is available as an alternative configuration, separating and diverting waste material while supplying a consistent stream of finished pieces. The air-suction deep-pile feeder can accommodate stacks up to 400mm.
Though he confirmed the machine was an OEM, Hillhouse declined to identify the original manufacturer.
Next development steps, according to Hillhouse, will include a larger die-cutting area – aiming for the B2 and SRA2 markets.
It will receive its official UK show debut at The Print Show, NEC Birmingham, next week.
Earlier this summer, Morgana confirmed a deal to become the UK master reseller/importer for Japanese manufacturer Uchida's machines in order to increase the latter's presence in the market.
