The MatanFlex 3m four-colour UV printer features a new UVFlex ink, which can stretch up to 250% before breaking, making it ideally-suited to fleet and vehicle wrap graphics. It can print up to 353sqm/hr and has a maximum print resolution of 600dpi.
"Until recently UV ink was unsuitable for printing fleet graphics," said Matan vice president marketing, Erez Zimerman. "Printed truck curtains go through a lot of repeated folding, pulling and tearing, which regular UV inks cannot survive without breaking.
"Car wrapping demands a great deal of stretching and heating, which was also not possible with UV inks until now. Since solvent and eco solvent inks are being banned in many countries, for environmental and health reasons, it was necessary to develop UV inks that would be flexible enough to do the job."
The Matan Quantum SWF 3m wide printer also features new inks, compatible with UV LED curing, as well as three grayscale levels - 7pL, 14pL and 21pL. Standard ink configuration is CMYK, Lc, Lm, Lk plus optional white.
Optional add-ons include a jumbo media handling system for rolls up to 750kg, an ID Backprint device that prints file and job information on the rear of the media, and a Vacuum Plate for turning the printer into a flatbed, available in 1.5x3.05m and 2x3m.
The printer offers resolutions up to 1,200dpi "with superb transitions, vignettes, skin tones and shadows, as well as precise and sharp four point text", according to Matan chief executive Hanan Yosefi. Maximum print speed is 200sqm/hr.
The Quantum SWF is aimed at HD quality print applications, such as close-view indoor graphics. Both new printers will be shown at next week's SGIA 2014 exhibition in Las Vegas (22-24 October).
Matan's superwide format UV printers are sold in Europe under the Uvistar brand.
