The new product is designed to offer, for the first time, an off-the-shelf configuration that will suit a broad range of palletising scenarios. “We have been making this system for over 20 years but what we have done is simplify the whole process of ordering. Now we’ve made it very easy to specify,” said Peter Lister, product manager for secondary packaging at Domino.
“We’ve looked at the most standard configuration, so people can get what they want without having to understand the complexities of what they want.”
Although chiefly aimed at in-house food, beverage and pharmaceutical packing operations, with six currently being installed at an unspecified “household name” brewery, Lister said printers could also benefit from the system.
He said: “This will suit anybody labelling shrinkwrapped pallets. With hand applying there’s a risk of error in terms of putting the wrong label on or not putting them in the same place each time. That can cause issues where you have automatic readers downstream.”
The M220 also features a new tamp head that allows 180-degree movement so labels can be applied to two adjacent sides of the pallet. It will also, in a couple of months, feature further enhancements such as air conditioning as standard.
The labeller features Quick Design software, which enables integration with other production line control systems, says Domino.
The M220 is available in either aluminum or stainless steel, which is designed particularly for the harsh production environments of the beverage sector. Both versions can come with optional label check scanners and climate control unit.
The starting price is £22,000 for the standard aluminum configuration.
