CS Labels to launch Augmented Reality offering

West Midlands-based digital label printer CS Labels will launch a new augmented reality offering at Packaging Innovations next week.

The collaboration with app developer ooh-AR is designed to increase sales and encourage online engagement for customers handling items on which CS Labels' products are applied.

The app recognises specific photographs and logos taking users to interactive content including videos, websites and presentations. It will also allow customers to access further product information, give feedback or buy products and services from their mobile device.

CS Labels managing director Simon Smith said: “This has a variety of applications. Scanning the label could take a user to an instruction video showing how to use a car cleaning shampoo for example. Augmented reality is an effective way of getting the user involved.”

The app is free for customers to download from Apple’s App Store or Google Play.

Smith said the trigger for the interactive content could be anything that the company using the technology wanted. “It can be a barcode, a logo, a picture of a person or a signature. It’s similar to a QR code but without compromising the look of the product," he explained.

CS Labels will, for the first time, have its own stand at Packaging Innovations on 26 and 27 February at Birmingham’s NEC. Other demonstrations on the stand will feature the firm's 'Peel and Reveal' labels.
