Automation innovators honoured

Three European printers, including a Dsseldorf firm, have won awards for innovation in process automation from CIP4 (Hall 7, stand C12).

The annual CIPPI awards ceremony, organised by the International Cooperation for the Integration of the Processes in Prepress, Press and Postpress (CIP4), will be held on 6 May in the drupa innovation park in Hall 7 at 17.30.

The Düsseldorf-based winner was Druckerei Köller + Nowakfor "Most innovative use of process automation technology in an implementation", supported by HP Hiflex, Kodak and Heidelberg.

France-based Imprimerie Rochelaise was recognised for "Best cost/benefit realisation and improvement in efficiency as a result of process automation implementation", supported by Rhapso, Agfa and KBA.

W&R Etiketten, of The Netherlands, won the category for "Biggest improvement in quality production and customer responsiveness as a result of process automation", supported by CERM, Esko and Xeikon.

CIP4 executive director Jim Harvey said: "All the applications were very solid and demonstrated complete automation of operations. While job definition format (JDF)-enabled print automation has become a core competency for most printers, the level of integration we see in these winning case studies shows that JDF-enabled print automation can positively affect profitability, quality and customer relations."

The annual CIPPI awards will be held on May 6 in the Drupa Innovation Park in Hall 7.
