Security ?rst & pack suppliers

Jo Francis tracks down the solutions to your technical troubles

Q I am trying to find a security printer who can use solvent-based inks and adhesives, ideally in southern UK. I have been asked to find someone who could apply solvent-based products to a variety of substrates, including different grades of paper, plastic films and metallised foils. The solvent-based products include inks, varnishes and adhesives. The web widths will vary, from 400-1,400mm. Ideally there would be some capability for corona or plasma treating. I would like to line up some potential suppliers while we’re in the process of firming the details up.

A I think the best I can do is suggest some security print specialists, though feedback from non-security specialists who have capabilities that would suit Dennis’ requirements would of course be most welcome. The trouble with security printing is that the printers who specialise in it aren’t terribly chatty about the kit they use, naturally enough, but I hope the following is of use, anyway. Baker Self Adhesive Labels 020 8523 2174 www.bakerlabels.co.uk; Smith & Ouzman 01323 524000 www.smith-ouzman.com; Stralfors 01209 312800 www.stralfors.com; Kalamazoo 08445 766 770 www.kalamazoosecure.co.uk; Bemrosebooth 01332 294242 www.bemrosebooth.com; De La Rue 01256 605000 www.delarue.com; Security Labels International 01543 431 099 www.securitylabels.com; Integrity Print 01761 409200 www.integrity-print.com; Magnadata International 01205 365161 www.magnadata.co.uk. I’m sure there are others, too, and perhaps this will mark the beginning of a new ‘definitive’ list.

Q I am looking for an alternative supplier to fulfil our retail packaging needs. We have several new products launching in the coming months. We currently use a mixture of both plastic and paperboard packaging. Volumes are likely to be big as a supermarket chain is involved. I am looking for a supplier who can work with me in terms of design, sampling and production of the retail packaging for these products. Fulfilment facilities would also be beneficial but not essential.

A I’m going to throw this one open to the Help Line readership as I’m sure there’s going to be a packaging supplier out there with facilities that are right up Ben’s street.
