The methodology is simple, and can be best described by way of a recent case study from the Anton Group, a large commercial and direct mail printer with extensive finishing capabilities. The company undertook an Envirowise-BPIF-Vision in Print environmental diagnostic to gain an objective view of its environmental management system and identify the true cost of waste and potential savings that would be achieved.
The group’s recent consolidation into a single building offered a significant opportunity to realise improvements from resource efficiency. A detailed assessment of current efficiency levels and environmental management performance was conducted. Then improvement opportunities and benchmarks were identified. The team spent two days at Anton Group assessing systems and speaking to staff. Documentation on environmental management, procurement and resource and waste management was checked and evaluated and areas for improvement were identified. A discussion session completed the process, and the results were evaluated by Anton’s management and reporting teams.
The diagnostic highlighted potential savings from reduction of white waste and makeready waste totalling £440,000. Even with high scoring on diagnostic criteria, results will still reveal potential savings that could improve profitability by 20-30%. Going green can be a money saver.
Make savings with green action
Printers want to save money and also work to sound environmental beliefs. It's possible to do both, and save significant amounts.
