How to... minimise your environmental impact

  1. Minimise CO2 emissions from deliveries by optimising  delivery schedules. Try to implement a ‘full in, full out’ logistics policy, by returning empty pallets for re-use or the collection of raw materials from local suppliers, for example
  2. Collect and store rainwater. Essential in areas affected by drought
  3. Protect local residents from excessive noise by restricting deliveries to working hours and installing sound proofing on noisy kit, such as waste extractors and compactors
  4. Encourage local employees to cycle or walk to work. Invest in shower facilities, build a cycle shelter and support the government’s Ride2Work scheme, which helps staff buy bicycles
  5. Where economically possible, source from local suppliers. Make sure suppliers provide you with copies of relevant environmental accreditations or certificates they hold
  6. Control and document the use of company vehicles. Assess the environmental impact and emissions of individual cars before making a new purchase for the company’s fleet
  7. Try to lessen the visual impact of your site by planting trees to screen factory buildings. Set new buildings into the ground to reduce the impact on the skyline. Ensure all buildings are properly insulated to minimise heat loss
  8. Ensure all oils and inks used in the production process are collected by authorised, licensed carriers and taken for recycling
