Packz was developed to enable the firm’s core customer base of wide format digital printers to offer their clients conceptual and structural design in addition to its output.

"Our customers' studios have got good skills and tools such as Adobe Illustrator for the artwork design but not necessarily the same skills or tool in 3D design and cardboard engineering," said Zund UK sales manager Peter Giddings. "There is a need to be able to go to clients and to be able to conceptualise and design the 3D elements as well as the graphics."

The software was developed for Zund by Kasemake.

"We have an association with Kasemake," said Giddings. "Packz uses the core of its product but tailored to the requirements of our customers in wide format."

He added that the package, which costs £2,100 per seat, would help firms to produce work they may previously have struggled with.

"Now if the sales guy comes in with an order for 200 dump bins, the studio no longer has to worry how the job is going to be produced as it can just select one of the templates from the Packz library," he said.

He added that the software produced a file that was open and independent of the need to have a Zund table.

The software, initially solely available in the UK, may be rolled out in other countries in the future.
