Young takes on greenfield challenge at Polestar

Polestars new greenfield gravure project will be headed by Chromoworks managing director Mike Young.

Young will report to a board-level steering group.
He joined Polestar in May from Quebecor, where he was vice president of international operations for Europe and Latin America. During his 13-year spell at the group he was also Quebecors senior vice president and chief accounting officer.

This is a very exciting project and the biggest single investment for probably as long as anyone can remember, said Young, who was very involved with some of Quebecors gravure sites during his time there.

His 10-strong project team includes Steve Whitehead, who returned to Polestar from Howitt Equator earlier this month.

As a result of Youngs appointment a number of other management changes have been made by the group.

Peter Greaves will move from Petty to become site director at Chromoworks, while Lindsay Atkinson moves from Greaves to fill the Petty role. Andy Reynoldson steps up to become acting site director at Greaves.

John Gissing has also joined Polestar. He was formerly employed as bindery manager at Howitt Equator. He becomes finishing and logistics manager of Newspac, reporting to Varnicoat managing director David Yendole.

Weve expanded the finishing at Varnicoat and brought stitching back on site, so we needed someone on site and Julian Barnett has become finishing manager here, Yendole said.

Newspac has expanded from two to three shifts as a result of demand from newspaper publishers, and Yendole said the January-February loads were very healthy.
