Local newspaper York Press reported that Sessions of York managing director Mark Sessions has put the business up for sale.
Sessions, who runs the 100-staff £6.5m-turnover company started by his great-grandfather William, said that none of his children wished to continue the family name and he was now ready to retire.
He told the York Press: "I reminded everyone that I am not Peter Pan. I don't have children in the company and I am obviously looking for a successor.
"Whether a sale takes place in six months or six years depends on whether I find the right pair of hands – someone who will keep the company going in the same way that we have run it."
When contacted by PrintWeek, Sessions declined to offer any further comment at this point.
The company is involved in a range of sectors, including labels, books and commercial print.
