Two key appointments

York Media builds team ahead of commercial start date

Galloway and Smith: team players

York Media has confirmed two key appointments as the business prepares to start printing at the end of next month.

CEO Linda Boyes has appointed Heather Galloway as commercial director and Russell Smith as production director.

Galloway has a track record of more than 30 years in the industry, in a career that began at Hunters Armley.

She has worked in a variety of commercial roles at St Ives Direct, Lettershop Group, York Mailing, and most recently at Walstead York.

Smith has been with York Media since March, overseeing the installation of the firm’s high-spec 72pp-80pp Lithoman IV web offset press, which has extensive inline finishing options.

His career spans shift and factory management roles at Polestar, YM Chantry and Walstead.

Boyes praised Galloway and Smith for their know-how and team spirit and said she was delighted to formalise their roles as directors.

“As a company, I definitely strive for that spirit of us all working together and everybody playing to their strengths, and these two appointments are well-deserved.”

She said the press was on course to start printing commercial work at the end of next month, with a number of potential customers visiting the operation in recent weeks.

The firm, which is part of Boyes’ €61m (£50m) turnover YM Media Europe Group, has also launched new branding and a website with the message “Commercial printing is back!” on the home page.

Other facilities at the 5,580sqm facility are being updated and remodelled with a factory makeover ongoing including improved customer facilities.

Smith said the business was planning to put white paper through the press in the first week of August, with print testing to follow.

York Media expects to print some work for its continental operation during the ramp-up phase.

The business has a preferred paper supplier arrangement with Palm Paper.
