York makes marketing move

York Mailing Group has made its first non-print acquisition as it looks to build a data analytics division.

The group has acquired circa £4m turnover multi-channel marketing business Go Direct Marketing (GDM), based in Otley.

GDM services include customer acquisition and retention, insert management, and data analysis. Its clients include Pure Collection, French Connection, Makro, Wrap, Cox & Cox and Thompson & Morgan.

The terms of the deal were not disclosed.

“We believe we can add additional value by bringing Go Direct Marketing into the portfolio, and we will be building a data analytics division under it,” said York Mailing chief executive Chris Ingram.

“Our vision is to create a group of companies that are leading and specialist operators in their own fields, with obvious crossover and the ability to offer complementary services to clients.”

GDM employs ten staff. Director Adrian Scott said being part of a larger group would enable the business to “strengthen and enhance our offering” while accessing a wider client base.

It will continue to operate as a separate business, but will relocate to Lettershop’s site in Leeds.

The deal is York Mailing’s second buy since the £10m investment in the business by the Business Growth Fund in the summer of 2013. It acquired Lettershop Group just over two years ago.

Ingram said the £110m turnover business remained open to further M&A opportunities. “We make sure we are able to act quickly if the right opportunity comes along," he added.
