The £1m machine represents the first sheetfed press bought by York Mailing in 20 years and was installed at its Scarborough facility, which it bought out of administration last July.
Managing director Mike Newbould said: "When we acquired Pindar’s web offset capabilities, it was immediately clear we needed a sheetfed press for the covers.
"The specification of UV option and coating reflects the widening variety of print specification for covers in a sector where visual impact and tactile response is so crucial. We also wanted the ability to switch easily to handle a wider mix of jobs."
The alcohol-free press features fully automated platechanging, a QualiTronic inline detection system, DensiTronic colour management and KBA’s CX package, which, according to the company, provides smooth delivery of a varied range of substrate thicknesses.
Newbould added: "The CX package is invaluable in enabling us to handle a wider range of stocks, so we can be more responsive to customer requests. But equally important was its production efficiency and low energy inputs that contribute to our drive for lean manufacturing.
"From day one, the press has met our expectations and made a significant impact on job turnaround times."
Since acquiring the former Pindar site, York Mailing has reached a turnover of £90m and currently empoys 280 staff.
