Mark Firmin, Brian Green and Howard Smith of KPMG were appointed as administrators of GA Pindar & Son and its subsidiary companies Pindar plc and Pindar Print on Tuesday (26 July).
Upon appointment the web offset division was sold to York Mailing in a pre-pack, which included the transfer of 255 employees.
The Preston-based sheet fed print business, which employs 72 staff, a cartography business in Aylesbury employing 16 people, 42-man software provider Agility, based in York and the Scarborough-based confidential printing business, which has 47 employees, all remain in administration.
Firmin said that the administrators were seeking buyers for the businesses and were speaking to a number of interested parties.
In a joint statement released to PrintWeek by Grant Thornton, which assisted York Mailing, this afternoon, York Mailing chief executive Chris Ingram and chairman Mike Newbould said: "This is an excellent opportunity to combine two of the UK's largest businesses in this sector, whilst ensuring the survival of the historic Pindar name.
"We are delighted to welcome the Pindar printing business into York Mailing and look forward to growing the business in this competitive marketplace."
Chairman Andrew Pindar put the company up for sale earlier this month.
