Xeikon plans to ship the upgraded production model of its CSP 320 cut-sheet digital printer by the end of June.
The machine was unveiled at Drupa and is being beta-tested by a number of companies, including UK personalised greetings card printer Moonpig.
Fulham-based Moonpig paid 100,000 for each of its two CSPs last summer and has been waiting for the production model.
Xeikon senior vice president for marketing and corporate planning Herman Remmerie said it put off shipping new machines "as it doesnt make sense for us to ship machines that arent the latest model."
He said Xeikon had limited the number of machines in the field to concentrate on implementing feedback. But he predicted sales of CSP would be higher than those for the reel-fed DCP.
