Xant launches speedy new platesetter

Xant launched what it claimed was the worlds fastest metal platesetter at Chicagos Graph Expo.

Impressia is an A3 portrait-format platesetter that can image a metal plate in quick time without washing or other chemical processes.

The kit is being targeted at small- and quick-print operators and will be cheaper than the 45,000 ($80,000) cost of its closest rival, AB Dick's Vector TX52.

Jeff Charnock, international sales director, said the Impressia used an Adobe PostScript 3 RIP to fire out 60 plates an hour. Maximum plate size is 340mmx505mm.

The Aspen aluminium plates will be capable of over 25,000 impressions.

He said the platesetter would benefit from Xant's "Z-7" technology, which uses electrophotography to produce the plates. The kit will be available in the UK from January, most likely through Info-Tec Distribution.

"There's nothing out there today that can image a metal plate this fast without any processing or rinsing," said Charnock.

"It's really revolutionary. Impressia gives the customer the power of metal CTP technology at an affordable price."

He said the firm was looking at producing a larger-format machine for work above A3 size.

Robert Ross, Xant founder and chief executive, said: "Our goal was to surpass user expectations for an affordable and efficient metal imaging system. We have exceeded our expectations."
