Wheatons orders Timson web

Polestar Wheatons in Exeter has scored a UK first with an order for a Timson Z48A ZMR web press.

It is the second UK order for Timson this week, following Fulmar division Bookmarque's order for a third Timson for its Croydon factory.

The arrival of the Timson book press, due to be installed in April 2005, follows recent expansion of CTP and finishing kit at the journal, directory and catalogue printer.

Wheatons managing director Bob Brown (pictured on the right with Timson managing director Peter Brown) said that the investment would give the plant "the very best web printing and limp binding facilities the industry can offer".

He added that the Timson press had been chosen "with the needs and demands of our current and potential customers in mind."

"The ability to produce 48pp A4 and A5 two-colour sections, the semi-automatic plate changing and the reduction in paper wastage all contribute favourably to customers' schedules and costs," said Wheaton's Brown.

The Timson press has twin print units and a vertical web line, which means that there is no need to stop the press to change plates when printing single-colour work.
