Lynx Advances deal to acquire the lease and at least one of the web presses at Washington Webs former site could be in danger of falling through after six weeks of inactivity (PrintWeek, 9 February).
"Since the prospective deal was first announced we have heard nothing, and I was expecting it to go through this week," said Washington Envelopes director David McGuire, whose sister company, Worldwide Envelope Machinery, owns the lease.
"Lets say I have a feeling of foreboding, and I am doubtful as to whether they have the money they originally said they had," said McGuire.
He added that he was ready to impose a deadline of the end of the month, by which time "the deal is either done or dead".
Lynx Advance is a subsidiary of London-based Lynx Press, which faces legal action over an outstanding debt of 828 owed to Service Offset Supplies of Loughton, Essex.
The outstanding invoice is from last July for supplies of general litho consumables.
Legal action is now being taken by Service Offset Supplies with an action due to be heard in London on
4 April.
"We have known Lynx for sometime and up to that point the account had run smoothly," said credit manager Bob Moir.
"But we have never had any acknowledgement from them despite various calls being made and letters being sent, and were left with the legal option," said Moir.
Lynx Press director David Duff was unavailable for comment as PrintWeek went to press.
