Earlier this month Printweek revealed Camacho was stepping down in a surprise move just two months after he took on the overarching EU remit.

In the wake of that news Walstead Group has now taken a different tack.

Its Walstead CE and Walstead Leykam operations will instead come under a “single multinational management team”.

This will be headed up by Grzegorz Czech, currently CEO of Walstead CE, who becomes CEO of both operations.

Walstead CE comprises the group’s operations in Poland, while Leykam encompasses its plants in Austria, the Czech Republic, Slovenia and last year's buy in Germany, GD Gotha Druck.

Walstead Group CEO Paul Utting commented: “We look forward to working closely with Grzegorz in reshaping our business in Central Europe where we believe there is considerable scope for future enhancements.

“We also wish José Maria well in his future endeavours and look forward to continuing our close relationship with the management team in Spain after his departure.”

Utting told Printweek that the group would refine its succession plans for Camacho’s role in Iberia over the coming months, prior to his departure at the end of the year.

Of his new role, Czech said: “As one company, we will stay focused on driving growth and value creation for our customers across Europe. The process of successfully integrating the two businesses will be critical to our future growth in the market and I look forward to contributing to our goal of being ‘Better Together’ for the benefit of our customers.”

Czech has worked in the industry for more than 20 years. He held senior roles at RR Donnelley’s Polish print operations, subsequently LSC Communications, and then joined Walstead when the group acquired the LSC Poland business in 2018.
