Waces press upgrade begins

Wace has finished commissioning the first long perfector in its 5m Heidelberg spend with the second going in this week, as part of a move to nearly double turnover.

"We're gearing up for turning the Wace factory into a 16m turnover plant," said sales director Steve Palmer.

The new 10-colour Speedmaster is already up and running, with engineers installing a 12-colour Speedmaster with CutStar sheeter as PrintWeek went to press. A CutStar unit will be added to the first press in October.

The two new perfectors, which will boost productivity by 30%, replace two eight-colour Speedmasters, a straight and a perfector, at the 9m turnover firm's Swindon site.

The 5m spend will also include a third Speedmaster, a 10-colour to be installed next year and a clutch of Heidelberg post-press kit. Two new folders will be installed in August, with a third at a later date.

The firm is also in negotiations with the German manufacturer about a new stitching line.
