Vertec opts for Agfa Avalon N8 to boost green credentials

Vertec Printing Services has bought an Agfa CTP system in a bid to enhance its environmental performance.

The £70,000 Avalon N8 fully-automated platesetter images 28 Azura TS chemistry-free plates per hour.

Production manager Colin Gilham said the kit, running Agfa's Apogee workflow, was another string to its environmental bow alongside FSC and Carbon Smart accreditations.

"Our old Esko Platedriver, imaging Fuji polymer plates, needed upgrading to reduce our use of chemicals," he said.

Vertec produces around 1,100 plates per month for 10-colour and five-colour B2 Komori presses and "wouldn't consider imaging plates on press", according to Gilham.

The south-east London-company employs 25 staff.
