Arriving at Reflex's factory site in Burton-on-Trent in May, the new toner press has taken over duties from the firm's older V180 model.
At 100 pages per minute – 25% faster than the V180 – and with the ability to handle significantly longer sheets of up to 1.2m or 864mm duplex, the 4100 has helped Reflex to take on more work.
Reflex's managing director, Gary Murgatroyd, told Printweek that the new press had been brilliant for business, not least for the longer sheets making production of 6pp A4 leaflets and photobooks much easier.
“It’s just so much faster. The quality of print isn’t massively different, but we knew that when we were purchasing the machine – it’s just the automation of everything else which has made it such a good investment for us,” he said.
Even a flood in June at the firm's in-town storefront did not slow the business down: Murgatroyd decided to consolidate operations at the factory site, making the business more profitable at no cost to sales.
"We just got on with it," said Murgatroyd.
Murgatroyd and his team considered a number of other machines, winnowing the shortlist down to three; in the end, however, it was Reflex’s long relationship with supplier Document Network Services (DNS) that sealed the deal in favour of the Versant.
“I almost went with another machine,” said Murgatroyd, adding: “But it’s that relationship I’ve got with DNS that made the difference. It’s so much easier for us, and they are only half an hour away if we ever do have issues.”
Hugh Sutherland, sales manager for DNS, commented: “It has been a pleasure working with Gary and the team at Reflex Print over the last 10 years.
“They are always up for finding new and innovative ways of boosting their printing capabilities to ensure that they are offering an exciting, high-quality range of products for their customers.
“A Versant 4100 was the perfect addition to their print room and will help them to save time and maximise productivity whilst keeping exceptional quality.”
Reflex employs eight at its Burton site, turning over around £825,000 annually.
