The new device was installed at the end of February and replaced a Versant 2100. It runs alongside two Presstek DI Digital offset presses, a 34 and 52, for longer runs as well as HP inkjet and Latex units for larger format work. The business also runs four Xerox devices that it uses for backup.
“Eight years ago we were early pioneers of the Versant range with our 2100 installation, that served us well with over 35 million impressions, but the time had come to replace it,” said company owner, John Brailsford.
“The new 4100 included all the favourites that made the 2100 a winner for us, multiple feeding, inline GBC punching, full capacity stacker and complete bookletmaking with fore edge trimming and document finishing,” he added.
“Along with the latest high-speed Fiery control centre coupled with our automated workflow, improved print image and long sheet capability, the 4100 ticked every box.”
The Versant 4100 prints at 100ppm with 2,400x2,400dpi ultra HD resolution with a recommended monthly output of 350,000ppm.
Brailsford told Printweek that he was more than happy with its performance so far.
“The Versant is performing very well, we have not had an engineer visit since the installation. It just prints.”
The Versant is the first new piece of production equipment to go in at the site since May last year, when the business became the first UK company to install a Morgana ColorCut SC6000 digital die-cutting and creasing machine, enabling the business to bring work in-house including short-run boxes, pocket folders, and various other cutouts.
Brailsford said the 12-staff company had been far from taking its foot off the pedal since then.
“Since the Morgana we have not added any new production equipment, we have however concentrated on having our shop front replaced, new signage along with a full replacement of every computer in our building to the latest specs and Windows 11 operating system and a brand new phone system, so not really standing still.”
And looking ahead, he added: “We are pretty much set up for a little while. Though we are looking at improving our wire-binding production with an automated closing system but not committed yet.”
Xerox UK’s sales specialist from Graphic Communications Operations, Andrew Crane, said: “John Brailsford Printers have been Xerox customers for almost 20 years and installed a new Iridesse Press back in 2021 with enormous success in producing a huge range of speciality print with embellishments and continues to increase volumes every month.
“The Versant 4100 Production Press works very well alongside the Iridesse. His employees were up and running with the 4100 the very next day after installation.
“The setup at John Brailsford Printers is the future of print shops, they are super-efficient with minimal touchpoints, using the most advanced technology and experienced employees that take pride and care in every job printed.”
