The annual review by Dow Jones selects companies that are leaders in their field by assessing their sustainability, environmental, social and financial performance.
Dow Jones DJSI indexes include the top 10% of the biggest 2,500 companies on the Dow Jones Global Index.
SAM Research sustainability analyst Gabriela Grab said: "Our assessment of UPM-Kymmenes sustainability performance shows that the company is among the leaders of its industry. And it is well positioned to manage risk and opportunity."
Companies on the indexes have announcements publicly communicated by Dow Jones, which, it is claimed, leads to increased recognition by stakeholders and legislators of their social and environmental records.
Other companies admitted to the DJSI include DuPont Canada, Alcan, AOL Time Warner, Fuji Photo Film and Marks & Spencer. Paper giant Weyerhaeuser was removed.
