UPM-Kymmene and Sappi Fine Paper North America have both announced plans to cut coated paper prod-uction by around 66,000 tonnes from June through to September.
The moves come on the back of UPM-Kymmenes prediction of further production cutbacks in the second quarter due to weakened demand (PrintWeek, 27 April).
UPM-Kymmene said that it would take two weeks of downtime at its Grand Rapids and Miramichi mills, removing some 36,000 tonnes of LWC paper from the market.
Sappi is to stage machine shutdowns across all its North American mills, which should take out over 30,000 tonnes of market production.
