Maidenhead-based Williams Press has installed a Fujifilm Graphic Systems Luxel P-9600 CTP dual-beam platesetter running Brillia plates, replacing a ScanView Dot-Mate 7500.
The dedicated magazine printer runs around 3,000 plates per month, and chose the Luxel P-9600 over thermal CTP machines.
The new system also fits in with Williams existing copydot scanners, which, like the Luxel P-9600, run at 2,450dpi.
"Other platesetters offered 2,400dpi output, so that was a real bonus for us," said pre-press manager Andy Humphrey.
Storage capacity, user-friendly hardware and software and support from supplier were also cited as factors in choosing the 265,000 machine.
Established in 1976, Williams produces around 85 weekly, monthly and annual trade, technical and consumer titles for publishers such as Reed Business Publishing and Wilmington Publishing. It has an annual turnover of around 4m.
