UPDATE: Overturned lorry carried printing chemicals

An overturned lorry that shed its load, temporarily closing the entry slip road to the M6 southbound at Junction 31 on Monday (10 January), was carrying printing chemicals.

Contrary to early reports, which suggested the lorry had been carrying a printing press, it has now been confirmed that the vehicle was carrying non-hazardous printer solution.

The accident closed the entry slip road to the M6 at J31 and caused delays southbound on the A59 until the lorry could be righted and removed from the scene.

The accident also led to congestion on the A59 Preston New Road westbound to the B6230 Cuerdale Lane junction.
