Turning Point Technologies is rolling out Dalims online flatplanning and production tracking software, Ficelle, after a successful test installation at Keene Group.
London-based Keene has been using the 30,000 software for a number of months. Technical director Jeff Keene described it as "working very well". "We have more control and can visualise whats going on, as can the client. It monitors correction cycles too. By using it with our Twist system the process is automated so our database is automatically updated, which is quite snazzy."
Keene is using the software with a major publishing client, which can view the page production information, including JPEG page proofs, using standard web browser software.
"I dare say that the days of film and Cromalin will change, and this is why were moving towards this type of system," added Keene.
Turning Point sales director Steve Emerson described the system as "ground breaking". "Its a major step forward in automation for repro houses, and cuts down on a number of costs, including couriers. Because we digitally manage it throughout the workflow it incorporates an electronic job bag. You dont have to have Twist to use it, but Twist users will get the most out of it."
Ficelle was jointly developed by Dalim and Hafiba, the French pre-press business owned by Hachette Filipacchi Presse and Bayard Presse.
