TSO opts for 'interface configuration' with Prism MIS

The Stationery Office (TSO) has placed an order for a Prism WIN Management Information System (MIS), following its acquisition in 2007 by BPO giant Williams Lea.

TSO, which publishes more than 8,000 titles a year and provides information management and publishing services to the public and private sectors, said that flexibility was central to its decision.

Terry Bailey, operations director at TSO, said: "We needed a highly configurable MIS to handle the differing requirements of government print, commercial work and the digital requirements of a Williams Lea operation.

"We don't fit an off-the-shelf MIS and needed interface configuration for these various production workflows. Direct Machine Interface was also on our operational wish list as some of our shop floor equipment is not JDF-enabled."

Bailey added that the open architecture of Prism was of "crucial strategic importance" to Williams Lea, as was its ability to bi-directionally interface to a number of third party systems across the group, thereby allowing TSO to automate order management and its supply chain.

Robin Cook, Prism UK sales manager, said: "TSO's requirements were far from standard but confirm our belief that if process automation, total cost capture and real time visibility of data are key considerations, then Prism is particularly suited to these requirements."

He added that an automated MIS was the cornerstone of establishing back office efficiencies.
