TIS offers new product after finishing spend

The Ink Shop (TIS) has upgraded its finishing department with a 200,000 spend and added another product to its arsenal as a result.

A Horizon StitchLiner with three 10-bin Turbo Vac PowerCollators, an AFC566F folder and a MKU54 mobile knife unit from Intelligent Finishing Systems have been installed at the company's Cumbernauld base.

The bookletmaker was bought to replace existing folding and stitching kit that the company had outgrown.

Managing director Stuart Mason said the purchases had  upped  capacity by around 40%, as well as enabling the company to offer a completely new service.

He said: We have discovered a totally new product that we couldn't do before: booklet business cards. We can produce eight- or 12-page booklets in business card size and our customers are using them for business cards, product guides, price guides and menus. It is our growth product of the year.

The StitchLiner features fully-automated makereadies and works from flat four-page sections. It has an icon-based LCD touch screen, job memory storage and runs at speeds of up to 5,500bph.

A touchscreen is  included on the AFC-566F folder, which also includes a 200-job on-board memory store. It can run at speeds up to 42,000sph.

TIS, which employs 25 staff, currently has a turnover of £2.5m, but, according to Mason, it is now targeting £3m, partly on the back of this investment.

It is now looking at its press department for further improvements and Mason believes it may not be long before a deal is confirmed.

He said: "It is no secret we are looking, but the deal has to be right. I would say if it is going to happen, it will happen at Ipex."

TIS has rebuilt is site over the last year after it was devastated by fire.
