The Bristol-based printer looked at a range of cutting machine manufacturers including Vivid and Zünd but, after thorough testing and following a visit to a local Titanium 2516 user, it said the device stood out as robust, adaptable, and “very competitively priced against the competition”. The machine was subsequently installed in August.
Taylor Brothers director James Shield said: ‘’One of our goals for 2024 is to continue to expand our portfolio of packaging and wide-format services. It was therefore vital that we acquired a digital CAD table with multiple functionalities and high precision.
“During the demonstration, we could really see the benefits of the Titanium cutters and the ROI was going to be a short period of time. The speed, accuracy, and quality output across a wide range of materials including Dibond, acrylic, Foamex, labels and folding box board were very impressive.
“It was also noted that the user was complimentary on the reliability of his machine after four years.”
He added: “We can also envisage the cutter freeing up our resources to support other areas of the business.”
IGS managing director Peter Flynn also commented: “Taylor Brothers have the highest reputation for print precision and quality, having listened to their requirements we felt the Titanium 2516 with router and our PS packing software would be the perfect fit.”
Shield said the PS software “has hundreds of box and POS designs in the library” and has already enabled the business to offer a range of packaging prototypes, both for existing and new customers.
“We are also able to satisfy short run cut/crease and kiss cutting products, which complements our two Heidelberg Versafire digital press capabilities.”
He added: “The large Titanium cutting bed at 2.5x1.6m includes a conveyor belt system, and we are now able to offer a range of wide-format products including wall/floor and window graphics and banners.
“A bonus was that the high precision drag knife allows us to cut our Heidelberg B2 litho coating blankets to create intricate varnish areas.”
Taylor Brothers has been based in Bristol since 1832. In September 2018 a management buyout saw a team of six members of staff take ownership of the company.
In the same month the business moved to a purpose-built 1,020sqm site two miles from the centre of Bristol.
