Tangent records profit and turnover jump

Cross-media specialist Tangent has recorded a jump in its pre-tax profit, following a disappointing 2009/10.

In its results to 28 February 2010, the company's pre-tax profit dropped from £523,000 to £282,000, despite turnover increasing by nearly 17% to £18.2m.

However, it has bounced back in 2010/11, increasing turnover a further 23.1% to £22.39m, while it made £773,000 profit - £1.05m pre-tax profit - to 28 February 2011.

Chief executive Timothy Green said that the positive situation appeared to be continuing into this year, although print has struggled

He said: "Our print revenues are expected to reduce against the previous year although the margin from revenues is likely to increase as the focus on quality digital print services takes priority over volume production."

Over the last year the company has won a number of contracts which has helped its results. In January it started a two-year contract to provide Carlsberg Group International with software and communications, while a three-year contract to provide membership services to the Labour Party began in August.

The 230-staff business had a reshuffle during the year, integrating its print business into digital printer Ravensworth in Newcastle. Some of the restructuring cost will be included in the 2011/12 financial year.

Its marketing and software business snowball was also moved into its digital subsidiary Tangent One. All costs associated with the move have been included in this financial year.
