Talks planned to salvage Arjos Fort William mill

Directors at ArjoWiggins have said they are willing to work with all parties to try to save its Fort William mill in Scotland.

Arjo announced in June it was undertaking a review of its operations at the Corpach mill, which could lead to its closure in November this year.

A meeting between the firm's senior management and representatives of Scottish Development International, Lochaber Enterprise and Highlands and Islands Enterprise was held on 29 July at Arjo's headquarters in Paris.

Lochaber Enterprise chief executive Charlotte Wright said Arjo had confirmed its willingness to work with all relevant partners to find the most appropriate solution.

"To address the wider issues of the group, a task team will be formed," said Wright.

Liberal Democrat party leader Charles Kennedy agreed to chair the group, at a meeting due to take place in early September, after a briefing with trade minister Malcolm Wicks.

Kennedy met Wicks in July to discuss opening up a potential DTI lifeline for the mill.
