The 15-staff business invested in a Canon Océ Arizona 6170 XTS, a Spartan CNC router, a Develop ineo+458 digital printer and relocated to the new site in early December.
The Arizona cost £290,000, the new premises was around £250,000 and the rest of the investment went on the router, the digital printer and building work.
The Arizona joins Synk’s two pre-existing Arizona machines, a 480 XT and a 660 GT, and is Synk’s fifth Arizona purchase since it was formed in 2009.
Managing director Chris Simmons said: “A big change is coming and already we have had a good start to the year. We ran the first job on the 6170 on Monday, it was 38 sheets in two-and-a-half hours and was exceptional. It allows us to go out and look for more work and get ourselves a bit more organised, which isn’t a bad thing.
“People want faster jobs and machines need to be faster and not lose any quality and this fits that bill. It may not be up there with machines that are £1m plus but for the cost it is not far off.”
With the purchase of the 2.5x3.05m Arizona, Simmons added that he would like to enter new markets for hoarding panels and supermarket print. It runs at 155sqm/hr in express mode and can print on substrates with a maximum thickness of 51mm.
At 530sqm, the new Hadfield premises is almost double the size of the old one and is also Synk’s first site to be bought outright. It is about 30 miles away from the previous one in Oldham but Simmons said there had been no issues with staff relocation. Synk has just taken on a new apprentice for the Arizona.
“We got the keys the first week in December so have just been re-carpeting, installing flooring and also the new router, which takes a bigger sheet size than the previous one,” added Simmons.
"It has always been our ambition to get our own place we've been very careful over the years; money has always been retained in the business because we want to build for the future and secure jobs.”
£2m-turnover Synk also runs a 2013-purchased Edale Beta six-colour UV flexo label press, two HP Latex machines, a Summa F-series cutter and an Océ ColorStream poster printer. The business is looking to purchase a new Latex and Epson roll-to-roll with white-ink option over the next few months.
