The £800,000 machine, which has been supplied by Fujifilm and was installed nearly six months ago, supports the existing Onset S40 installed by the firm two years ago at its premises in Melksham. It uses Fujifilm Uvijet OC inks, which produce solid and vibrant colours.
“Other alternatives that we looked at weren’t fast enough or the quality levels weren’t good enough,” said commercial and operations director at Superior Creative Richard Blueitt.
“We’ve had such demand that the investment is just down to pure growth with our clients. The Onset S40i will provide better quality, productivity and efficiency which will make us more competitive with our prices and should enable us to take on more work.”
The Onset S40i produces POS-quality display graphics at speeds of up to 560sqm/hr, equivalent to 112 full bed sheets/hr and onto substrates up to 50mm thick.
The retail sector is a key target for Superior Creative, which prints predominantly on corrugated and fluted board to produce POS and displays.
The firm, which has 150 employees and a turnover of £16m, has also expanded its premises recently.
“We built an 800sqm extension on our main factory. We’ve now got three buildings; one is large format and studio, one is our litho finishing and hand finishing department and the third is a dedicated hand finishing department for the large format work,” said Blueitt.
“What we soon found out is that with large format work you need a large area for finishing so we’ve now had to reconfigure all of the departments so that hand-finishing can have its own building.”
