World premiere for Inca Digital's new Onset S40i

Inca Digital's new Onset S40i flatbed UV inkjet printer has been well received after getting its world premiere

The new machine, which will be distributed exclusively by Fujifilm, supersedes the Inca Onset S40 and includes new features, such as reduced bed-masking, a UV sensor system and substrate height detector.

The Onset S40i produces point-of-sale (POS) graphics at speeds of up to 470sqm per hour and can handle substrates up to 50mm thick.

It uses 168 user-replaceable printheads (28 per colour), which deliver a 28-picolitre drop size.

Fujifilm group marketing manager for wide-format Tudor Morgan said: "We are showing the Onset S40i at Drupa and it will be commercially available from August with delivery from September at the earliest.

"It is a brand new machine to replace the S40. It is not upgradeable, but Inca’s proprietary software has been built into the production platform, which means that Inca can maintain the price at around the same level as for the S40."

The machine’s 15-zone vacuum table reduces the bed-masking requirements for substrates thinner than 3mm, which Fujifilm said reduces set-up times and increases overall machine productivity.

Its auto-sensor system monitors the machine’s condition and informs the operator when automatic cleaning is required, while mechanical substrate height detectors aim to improve accuracy and enhance substrate and printhead production.

Fujifilm has also launched a new Uvijet ink system for use with the Onset S40i, which has been developed to offer improved adhesion and finishing properties.

There are 18 different configurations available in the Inca Onset range, with a choice of productivity levels and ink options.

Morgan said pricing for the Onset S40i would depend on the configuration of the machine.
