As a result of the acquisition the two businesses will join forces to operate as SML Gresham, with plans to become a European centre of excellence for data management and variable ticket, label and packaging printing for the fashion industry.
SML Gresham will operate from STR's existing sites at Corby and Market Harborough.
SML Europe is one of the largest suppliers of woven labels and trims, and employs 30 staff at its present Leicester sales office.
That office will now close with all staff joining with STR's 120 employees in the combined company.
Current STR Gresham managing director Steve Ablett will head up the business under a new management structure.
SML Gresham will operate as part of the Hong Kong-based SML Group, which has 50 worldwide sites.
