The new line will be built at its Kvarnsveden mill in Sweden, and will produce super-calendered-B (SC) paper. At the same time the firm will shut down its paper machine 9 at Kvarnsveden, once the new SC machine starts up.
Paper machine 9 produces 130,000 tonnes of improved newsprint per year. The loan agreement has been signed with the European Investment Bank (EIB), and follows Stora's announcement of its go-ahead for the project in 2003.
The total investment for the project at Kvarnsveden is estimated to be around 300m. It aims to improve the competitiveness of the firm in the uncoated magazine paper sector and strengthen its position in the growing SC paper market.
