The Keighley, West Yorkshire-based company purchased the 18,000sph press, a five-colour machine with coater, to replace its first Speedmaster, which clocked up almost 200m impressions in four years.
Steffprint managing director Michael Watson said: "The outgoing machine has been producing up to 50m impressions a year, operating 24 hours a day, five days a week. We are not an exclusive Heidelberg house and we review the market each time we buy a press but no B1 press matches the XL 105 currently."
Steffprint, a B1 litho printer, produces a range of work from high-volume mail order leaflets and brochures to short-run high pagination specialist books and trade work. Its new Speedmaster XL 105 is equipped with Axis Control spectral measurement for accurate colour and fast set-up times.
The company mainly serves clients in the UK but one of its biggest customers is based in New York where Steffprint staved off competition from China by being able to offer fast turnaround work at a competitive price.
Mr Watson added that the new machine’s ability to print lighter-weight coated stocks would help print buyers reduce their paper costs.
