The Stationers’ Company has revealed that Vint Cerf, one of the ‘fathers of the internet’, will speak as guest of honour at its 2024 Innovation Excellence Awards on 11 October.

Cerf, currently vice president and chief internet evangelist at Google, is best known for co-designing the TCP/IP internet protocols and the architecture of the internet we use today alongside Bob Kahn.

Presenting the company’s prestigious Innovator of the Year award, Cerf will attend the awards as honorary freeman and liveryman of the Stationers’ Company.

Vida Barr-Jones, CEO of brand agency Focus7 and Kate Howell, strategy and communications advisor, both welcomed Cerf as co-chairs of the Stationers’ awards in a statement: “It is a privilege to welcome Dr Vint Cerf to the Innovation Excellence Awards ceremony this year, as we celebrate the 10th year of the awards.

“Innovation is a vital means for organisations to remain relevant, competitive, and responsive in their respective industries and we want to celebrate it.”

The awards, now in their 10th year, will be held at a champagne reception and lunch on 11 October at Stationers’ Hall in London.

The chairs added: “We want to extend a huge congratulations to all the shortlisted brands and companies – they should be very proud of themselves and the ceremony will be made even more special by the attendance of one of the fathers of the internet, Dr Vint Cerf, the ultimate innovator.”

Cerf has received huge acclaim for his work, including the US Presidential Medal of Freedom, US National Medal of Technology, the Queen Elizabeth Prize for Engineering, the Prince of Asturias Award, the Japan Prize, the Charles Stark Draper award, the ACM Turing Award, the Marconi Prize and Marconi Lifetime Achievement Award, the IEEE Medal of Honor, the Legion d’Honneur, the VinFutures Grand Prize and the Franklin Medal.
