Startup finishing company 'exceeding expectations' after six months

A Derbyshire print finisher that only started up in January this year has said it is already exceeding expectations after just six months.

Nigel Moore Print Finishing in Ilkeston set itself the target of a £500,000 turnover for the first year, but has already adjusted that to £650,000.

The company recently completed a series of investments with a CP Bourg BB3002 single-clamp perfect binder and a Medalist 870 A3 folding machine – both from Terry Cooper Services.

The Medalist was installed in order to handle a specific contract, but it now takes on work that would not be appropriate on the company's larger folders.

The investment, which completes a £220,000 spend since the company formed, will help target small-run digital work that most finishers are not interested in, founder Nigel Moore said.

Moore is a former director of Phoenix Print Finishing in Nottingham but has set up on his own to work with the small- to medium-sized printer. His company employs nine full-time staff and around 25 casual workers.

The business offers binding, stitching, folding and miniature folding – specialising in small-run work.

He added: "I have made lots of contacts from my time at Phoenix and I am looking to satisfy those customers. It has been a very successful first six months for us."

Next on the agenda for Nigel Moore Print Finishing is a move to a bigger site and Moore believes this could happen by early 2009.
