Stahlfolder brings Wyndeham Gait new markets

B1 printer Wyndeham Gait has made its most expensive finishing investment to date, adding new services to its arsenal.

The Wyndeham Press Group company installed the Stahlfolder TH66, its fifth and most advanced such machine, last week. It has a list price of more than £200,000 and replaces an older machine.

It has allowed Wyndeham Gait to save money in the finishing department, with two members of staff that recently retired not being replaced.

According to production director Dan Dean the machine has come in handy for the "millions" of mini-timetables it does for rail and bus companies.

Dean said: "We do literally millions of A7 concertina timetables and this machine was bought specifically with these in mind. We actually think that the machine is about four times faster than our previous machine."

It has also allowed Wyndeham Gait to move into double gate fold work, which Dean said was a specialised fold, which the company could not do before.

He added: "It is very popular with designers and we have been quoting for this work, before we would avoid or put out to a specialist finisher. The machine has only been in a week and already we have run a couple of jobs."

He added that it has also changed the £5m turnover company's mindset when it comes to emergency jobs. Previously change over time on the folder was so long that it was not worth taking long run jobs off once they had started, however, the TH66 is automated.

Dean said: "If something comes in we can take a long run job off of the folder, get the new job out quickly and put the long run job back on. Change over time is almost incidental."

  • Heidelberg has announced a finishing event at its national showroom in Tamworth on 4-5 November. Machines on show include Polar cutting systems and materials handling solutions alongside Stahlfolders, including the latest KH 82 combination model.  A Flexomailer line will be running with gluing and card-tipping and, a first for Heidelberg in the UK, inline die-cutting.
