St Bride to run Tudor replica

St Bride Library, the London-based research institute for the printing industry, will next year install the working replica of the Caxton-style Tudor printing press featured in BBC2's What The Tudors Did For Us.

The press had to be dismantled and stored having been constructed specifically for the programme in a BBC studio.

But according to St Bride librarian Nigel Roche, who appeared in the show alongside presenter Adam Hart-Davis, the press, which is the only working Tudor press in existence, will become a permanent feature at the Library, which is based on Fleet Street.

"This is a working press based on early-16th century models," said Roche. "There really is nothing of this order available other than static displays. But this is totally useable."
