The FMsix systems software has been developed and tested at MY Cartons site in Holland over the last two years in partnership with Creo, Artwork Systems, Kodak Polychrome Graphics and SunChemical-Coates Lorilleux.
The system uses standard CMYK plus two special colours, orange and blue or, for some colours, orange and green.
MY Cartons Hoogerheide managing director Mark Collet said the process main advantage was that it used CMYK and could be switched over easily, required fewer wash-ups and produced a higher quality.
"Its a totally open system. You basically switch before the RIP stage of the CTP. The colours are reproduced with FM screening software from Creo and theres virtually no variation," said Collet.
He added that the FMsix process accounted for 30% to 40% of work now produced at Hoogerheide and that there were plans to transfer existing ink standards to FMsix.
The system will be demonstrated at Ipex.
