Spectra explores new digital materials

Spectra the US-based ink-jet print head manufacturer is looking to expand beyond its core printing market.

It has appointed Martin Schoeppler as corporate and business development vice-president. He joined from Agilent, where he was senior director of marketing of the semiconductor group.

Among his responsibilities in the newly created role will be the development of areas "that could benefit from the digital application of various materials, including new fluids that enable electronics".

"Electronics fabrication using print heads as micro-deposition devices is making great headway and transitioning from pilot to scale up," said Spectra president and chief executive John Batterton. "Martin is the ideal executive to strengthen our position in these important markets."
